Woburn Lower School

Welcome

On behalf of all the staff I would like to welcome you to our website and to our school. I hope you enjoy finding out more about our school by browsing our website.

Woburn is a small village school. It was built in 1582 by a Free School Charity founded by Francis, Earl of Bedford. Whilst many things have changed, the commitment to providing the best education for our children has remained. We very much value your part in the education of your own child and recognise the work you have already done in teaching your child as their first educators. We want to continue to strengthen this partnership between home and school. At Woburn Lower School, we value standards and achievement. We believe that each child is an individual and we seek to provide a rich curriculum which develops the whole child. We want our children to be spirited individuals who embrace challenge, think creatively, value achievement and strive to be the best they can be. We provide a broad and balanced, stimulating curriculum, full of opportunities to excite and motivate our learners. This is complemented by a rich variety of extra-curricular activities which encourage children to carry on enjoying learning. We foster relationships built on mutual respect. We are extremely proud of all that goes on here. As our website demonstrates, the children of Woburn Lower School are supported in their learning by dedicated staff, governors and parents.

Woburn Lower School

You are most welcome to visit and see what a special place Woburn Lower School is.

A letter from Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for School Standards 2019,

‘I would like to congratulate you, your staff and pupils on your school’s outstanding achievement in the 2019 phonics screening check…With 100 per cent of pupils at Woburn Lower School reaching or exceeding the pass mark in the check, your school is in the top 3 per cent of all primary schools in the country.’

Ofsted noted,

Pupils believe Woburn is a special place. They are immensely proud to be part of a learning community that has occupied the school's historic buildings for over 400 years. Pupils' enthusiasm for learning permeates the school. Support from the parents is unanimous. Parents said "Wonderful teachers, wonderful staff, wonderful school!"

Our Early Years and KS1 results for all groups, continue to remain well above the national average. In Year 4 this is true for local authority data.

More importantly, our children overwhelmingly told us in their questionnaire that they felt that their teachers look after them and that they are doing well at school!
