Owls Reception Class
Welcome to the Owls class page. The Owls teachers are Mrs Windle, the Early Years Lead, who teaches for 4 days and Mrs Black, the Head Teacher, for 1 day a week. Each day they are supported by the wonderful teaching assistant Ms Borthwick. There are 12 available places in Owls per academic year.
The Owls class is safe, nurturing environment that is full of fun, creativity, and learning. We also promote the Scandinavian philosophy of Hygge. This philosophy helps to enable the learning environment to become a calmer more productive space. The use of soft lighting, less but more quality resources and open spaces promote positive behaviour, and open-ended tasks promote critical thinking.
Alongside our indoor classroom area, we are fortunate to have our own outdoor classroom and garden which the children access throughout the day. Learning is delivered through adult led and child-initiated activities and enhanced through play, exploration, and investigation of the world around us. Our reception children are also included in the weekly specialist teaching of French on Tuesday afternoons.
Our provision is designed to encourage the children to be enthusiastic independent learners within a positive and well-resourced learning environment. Topics are planned termly and are influenced by the children's own interests and fascinations. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in with our learning through attending our very popular 'Stay and Play Curriculum mornings'. They are very welcome to come and help in class hearing readers or supporting group activities.
We also have a class teddy bear called Hugo who goes on home visits at the weekends and during school holiday with the children. Each child will be asked to contribute to a class book of Hugo's Adventures.
