Woburn Lower School

Schools Council

Welcome to our School Council page.

The School Council are the ‘voice’ of the children at Woburn Lower School. They work together with Mrs Longmuir and the teachers to bring about changes in our school and to organise fundraising activities. Each year we vote for which charity to support and whether we want to raise funds for a school project.

There are two children from each year group in the School Council. We elect a chairperson, a vice chairperson, a secretary and a treasurer and we meet every half term.

The members of the School Council are elected by their class and they wear their School Council badge with pride.

We are always looking for new ideas and so all the children in the school can contribute by talking to a School Council member or by putting a suggestion in our gold suggestion box.

We believe that all the children should have a voice – developing their belief and understanding that they have the ability to be involved in making a difference to the world.

Our School Council representatives for 2022 – 2023 are:

This half term Woburn Lower School have been busy fundraising for Willen Hospice. The fundraising began with a pop up costume shop the week before World Book Day and ended with a sponsored bunny hop that raised over £400! The children absolutely loved their visit from the Easter Bunny and we hop, hop, hopped around the playground!

Our School's Council went to visit the hospice to see how the money raised is helping people. We got to see the beautiful garden, the wellbeing room and even got a biscuit in the café! The children spoke to a nurse and asked her lots of questions about her job. We left feeling very inspired

As the weather warms up, the school council are working alongside the PTA to sell ice pops after school on a Friday!

The school council have recently purchased some wonderful new books with the money raised from their sponsored read challenge! The school council had their first meeting of 2023 with the PTA and Mrs Longmuir. We discussed lots of exciting plans for the year ahead! The School Council has been busy in helping to organise the halloween disco. Today we agreed on the games we should play, the certificates we need & designed a poster to advertise the event. The children went and stuck the posters up around the school to spread the news! Following a very successful event last term, the school council have been busy organising another movie night. They carried out a survey and the children voted for the movie they'd like to watch.

Our new school council's first project was to organise children in need day, they asked the school how they'd like to fundraise!
